DavidGordon10ParticipantAs an experiment the other day, I did not book my usual minicab firm to pick me up at LHR, but on arrival at T4 I opened Uber on the phone and requested a pick up.
Nothing happened for at least half an hour. Repeatedly it said “pick up wil be in 10 minutes” (sometimes changing to 11+ or to 9 minutes) but no driver name or car registration appeared. I gave up and got a black cab at great expense.
The map showed Ubers hovering near the tunnel to the central area.
Do other forum users have similar experiences? I know there is now a book in advance facility.

JohnHarperParticipantDavid, I’ve never tried Uber but I do find I can be picked up very quickly by either Parker or Addison Lee if I haven’t made a booking. Both have android apps which perform very well at least IME.

MartynSinclairParticipantWhere are you trying to pick up the car from?
I have seen mini cab drivers ticketed in T5 drop off zone, when trying to collect. The only time a mini cab is now allowed to collect at the drop off is if they are dropping off at the same time.

andrew.gillParticipantHi David
I’ve had collections twice from T5 and T2 and all were as usual (I like that the app now tells me which row and level in the car park to go to ).
We’ll never know exactly what didn’t work for you that time, so fingers crossed for the next one.

Window-seatParticipantSeems like the app went a bit mad. When that happens I usual quit it and re-launce and it works.
Now Heathrow has admitted Uber is a real thing and everyone is using it they have started to organise proper pickup areas in the car parks for the car rather than you running all over the airport to try to find the car.
Sorry it did;t work for you this time, better luck next time.

AMcWhirterParticipantUber drivers have been causing problems for local residents. A new car park for them is supposed to have opened by now.
