capetonianmParticipantI hadn’t realised they were still in difficulty, although I’m not surprised.
Well, we all know the old adage, how do you become a millionaire by starting an airline? Start off as a billionaire and wait.

capetonianmParticipantNationalised carriers are some of the world’s best – and most of the world’s worst.
Not entirely relevant but this article by Simon Calder is worth reading.

1- “Air Italy collapses, heads into liquidation”, (ch-aviation 11-2-20)https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/86186
–But what surprises me is that there was no comment on the Aga Khan statement a few days ago indicating he would be liquidating his shareholding in Air Italy.I cannot be more specific as I cannot find the newspiece. But an outstanding warning all the same.

canuckladParticipantYou know what, I’m beginning to have little sympathy with those airlines that have got themselves into trouble over the 737 Max issue.
Airlines have deliberately opted for an aircraft (Including Air Italy) more suited for short to mid haul flights , knowing full well that the reason they were buying the aircraft was to cram as many people into a smaller space and fly them long haul regardless of how comfortable the surroundings are.
Airlines need to operate at a profit, but relentlessly squeezing that margin at the expense of the passenger, has come back to bite them in the arse, so hell mend them !!

What has any of that got to do with planes being fit for purpose? Regardless of the business model surely airlines should be able to purchase aircraft that don’t have faulty software or debris in the tanks?
Bizarre argument if I may say so.
Also surely having denser configurations and more efficient aircraft would be more likely to help financial viability? What has that got to do with airlines going bust?
