Given your planned routing, BA is the only airline which can serve the open jaw ticket with a consistent cabin.

in the end the agent found ex Milan which provides slightly shorter legs. i paid £1750 + 50 for the LHR-Milan. The only question i have as I have not been into Milan Linate for some time is whether inbound and outbound pax are seperated. In Dusseldorf, inbound pax have direct access to the preboarding departure lounge so there is no need to go through the system to get straight back on.
