Im a Victoria gold card holder and fly with TAP quite a bit between Manchester and Lisbon and Faro, I like the airline, and look forward to TAP enjoying a stronger future and more growth.

Having read the article in more detail, I’d be very happy if I was a TAP employee. Or indeed a Portuguese citizen.
I’d be less happy if I had shares or an interest in Iberia. JetBlue and Azul seem to be very well run airlines, with a considerable and loyal customer base.
Could the new owners ultimate plan,be to turn Lisbon into a viable hub southward in direct competition to Madrid?

Why not Jetblue and Azul will also have the benefit of the friendly Portuguese people to create a passenger friendly hub.

PortugalĀ“s left-wing parties oust the right-wing government looking to replace them. As a result, even before achieving power the left-wingers are sticking their fingers in the pie to influence and/or reverse sell-offs previously agreed to help solve PortugalĀ“s economic problems.

….And the first action is to stop the sale of TAP!!

…apparently the reason is that the sale was due to be completed today, 12-11-15. But this is dogmatic politics at work not measures to aleviate cuts in social services.

As a continuatiuon of the previous piece of news………..
“Caretaker Portuguese Government Approves TAP Sale” (Airwise/Reuters 12-11-15)

    http://news.airwise.com/story/caretaker-portuguese-government-approves-tap-sale

The left-wing opposition declared the transaction “unlawful”. However, the government reacted by saying immediate approval was necessary due to “”imminent collapse at the treasury” of the state-owned company”, if nothing was done. They said that “At most, the money would have to be returned”, if a socialist government came to power. No penalty clauses were attached to the agreement.

Just been announced that TAP has ordered 53 long and short-haul aircraft from Airbus.

The order comprises A330s and a mixture of A320/A321 neos.

I hope TAP succeeds , i use them quite often, between Manchester and Portugal, and like them. Lisbon must be a good hub destination to operate from for South America, so potential is there.
