SergeantMajorParticipantImpressive photograph of one of BA’s A380s in front of Table Mountain, heralding the launch of the airline’s first scheduled A380 flight to Johannesburg on Wednesday 12th February 2014:
You can fly to South Africa aboard the A380 from £1376rtn in BA’s new Premium Economy cabin:

BigDog.ParticipantLast time I went, Table Mountain was the backdrop to Cape Town – more than a 2 hour flight from Johannesburg being nearly 1,000 miles away.
Guess it is not just ground navigation that could be problematic for them Superchris 😉
BTW – This is impressive and 3 years before BA.

Quite bizarre really to send an A380 for promotional pics to a destination it does not actually serve.
For Joburg BA will be the 4th airline to send their A380s to, after LH, AF & EK.

superchrisParticipantEmirates are back to 777’s on Joburg, but you are right, they have had A380’s previously.

sparkyflierParticipantI think the A380s should be on the Cape Town route, as well, and use the 3 additional slots they are allocating to Cape Town this northern summer/SA winter to other routes, perhaps even a Durban/Maputo offering.

BigDog.ParticipantAt present Cape Town is unable to take A380s – the runways are not long/wide enough or strong enough.

LuganoPirateParticipantI was at the Cape Town Waterfront when the LH 380 flew over. It was really impressive. From there it flew over Table Mountain and I guess back to JNB.
In fairness to BA referencing Sparkyflyer’s comment, LH do not serve CPT with the 380 either!

HedgeFundFlyerParticipantIt’s a great photo but a slightly odd thing to do, given that the service is from JNB not CPT.
It would be a little like SA Airlines advertising an A380 service from London, with pictures of the said airframe flying over the Vatican.
