In a separate thread “openfly” referred to the weekend engineering work on the Brighton line.

With today’s fine weather many more rail travellers are heading to the coast.

The congestion is now so bad that Southern is telling people not to travel to Brighton today.

Pax using Gatwick are reporting “absolute chaos.”

    Thanks, Alex.

I’ve said before on this forum that I have absolutely had it with the Gatwick Express. Several times now I have had very serious problems getting from London to Gatwick and vice versa by rail. I am sick of it and decided some time ago NEVER to fly from Gatwick again until the rail services to/from LGW sort their act out. This is a shame because I quite liked LGW.

If people are missing flights (either trying to get to Gatwick or transferring to Heathrow) due to the public transport chaos, are airlines being cooperative or travel insurance picking up the cost?

Gatwick was voted UK’s second most unpopular station in the latest Transport Focus survey which had been conducted before yesterday’s chaotic scenes.
