As complicated as it sounds SAS is doing exactly that – launching a new airline with an Irish AOC to be based in the UK and Spain. Sounds a little like….Norwegian!

Not many details so far. SAS have so far said the new airline will ‘complement’ the existing SK network but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some current SK routes being flogged off. Haven’t said how many aircraft or which routes they will operate yet.

I think that like Norwegian, SK have underlying labour problems, that Scandis can be a bit unionised, and in general they are all socialist Leftie/Liberal states, which of course tends to be ‘anti-business’, so I think this will loosen their ties a little and enable SK to be able to use cheaper cockpit/cabin crews.Finnair has been trying to break the ties on tgis matter for some years, but because they are basically a ‘state airline’ their hands are rather tied and they have not had much success.
