Some good news for readers flying long-haul in economy and premium economy class.

Last March we reported on a trial by Singapore Airlines (SIA) whereby it would use paper catering serviceware on long-haul flights.

The trial took place on several routes out of Singapore including London, San Francisco, Sydney, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Seoul.

After studying the negative passenger feedback SIA has now decided not to proceed with the paper serviceware.

SIA’s CEO Goh Choon Phong gave a media briefing in Singapore yesterday.

Todayonline.com quotes the CEO commenting on the results of the trial, “If it [paper catering serviceware] doesn’t work, we must be willing to to withdrew them and then do what’s right by the customers. And that’s exactly what we have done.”

Our piece from March 3 including many reader comments.

As A.J.Laffley, the former CEO of Proctor & Gamble, so sagely put it “Fail early and fail cheaply”
