No matter the political party in power, I don’t think a British PM should fly Economy.
Agreed LP – — As someone who flies long haul in “Y” the last person I’d want to find myself sitting next to for hours on end is a politician.
On more than a few occasions have sat next to cabinet ministers, lords and other scoundrels but only had to endure their prattling for the time it took to fly between London and Edinburgh.

I meant he could have paid for an upgrade. I think he could have afforded it. Is he really such a cheapskate?

Absolutely right. Have flown those seats in Y many times. Often they’re blocked off for the crew.

Just a politician knowing what kudos this would get him from the less affluent.

Yiannis Varoufakis did the same when he went to his first Eurogroup meeting as Greece’s finance minister back in 2015 when the country was on the brink. Never did it again that year. Now I often see him in Business on LON-ATH flights. So egalitarian.

I think there’s not much chance of sitting next to BoJo in the economy cabin – perhaps he was surrounded by staffers and security people? I expect so, surely security is an issue?? — I don’t think the general public are allowed too close to PMs unless they’ve been vetted anyway?

May I thank you all for deciphering the drivel in the Mail & Express and saving me from clicking on either link.
    Happy New Year.

Perhaps the real test of the PM’s everyman credentials will be where he sits on the overnight back home…..

I suppose that flying economy or business is up to him as long as it’s paid with his money.

In Spain our socialist PM is known for flying everywhere on the official Air Force plane or helicopters even when attending private events (he even went on the private jet to a concert that was an hour away by high speed train). He says it’s for safety and makes the costs classified…

Maybe not the PM, but after a boring politicians ( cabinet minister) non speak chat from EDI , the most memorable part of my journey was the walk from the furthest away domestic gate in the old T1 to the WH Smith’s shop , as I was accompanied by 2 Met Officers along with their semi automatic rifles protecting my ex seat mate !
