LP – thanks. I’ll do that.

Becky – where did you find that fare? If I remember correctly, China Southern’s website wouldn’t do on-line fare quotes, so we pretty much gave up on them. This would be an attractive option. Thanks.

A round the world ticket in economy from London would cost at least £2500 with oneworld, so perhaps not an option if you want something cheaper than £1000.

Is it possible to pick up unsold package holiday tickets (with hotels) to China at the last minute? Would this help Simon?

Just received this offer from Swiss Simon,

    http://booking.swiss.com/web/bba.htm?i=OgV1&g=2&WT.mc_id=Twitter_AsiaSpecial_20120730

Beijing from chf 800 return. Maybe it will also apply ex bhx?

Just to advise you that the 14 Aug is perhaps one of THE busiest dates (for direct/Chinese carriers anyway)….. When do the Olympics wind down and how many Chinese athletes et al have to find their way back to China?? LOTS!!! NOT a good time to travel. If you get for £1000 you doing well.

    AhMrBond,

I was expecting you to respond.

As stated above, it is NOT the outward on the 14th that’s the problem. It’s the return.

    Thanks anyway.

    LP,

Thanks. Unfortunately it seems only to be ex-CH.

Have Turkish got some good deals? They fly into Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou and have a reasonable product, in addition, they have an excellent premium 7 on their 777-300s. They may even go from BHX via IST but not totally sure of that.

    Hi sparkflyer,

Good thinking. They do indeed fly from BHX via IST.

In the past I have posted critical things about TK on here, primarily relating to my experiences of their safety procedures. therefore, I’m not sure whether I would wish to risk losing my team…… having said that, Aeroflot’s been look at as a option, so….

    Many thanks, Simon

    Bucksnet and Constantflyer,

Can I ask where you found the Emirates and Finnair fares, please?

Both websites are showing fares significantly above this.

We’re now looking at Beijing only.

I’m sorted, but the chaps aren’t. We found an agent fare with China Southern (on KLM metal) from BHX via AMS. Advertised at less than £700. When we tried to book it, it miraculously went up to a grand each.

The reason given was “the fare has been revised since your original search.” However, do the search again, and it still shows the original fare of less than £700. Misleading, fraudulent bar stewards.

PS TK showing a grand per skull (ex BHX).

Does anyone know of any consolidators for TK, as the connections are pretty good (and I don’t have to fly them myself…..!!)

Simon, I usually try Kayak first: –

    http://www.kayak.co.uk/#/flights/BHX-PVG/2012-08-14/2012-08-21 – £651 to Shanghai

    http://www.kayak.co.uk/#/flights/BHX-PEK/2012-08-14/2012-08-21 – £658 to Beijing

It searches a lot of other sites, and you can remove airlines you don’t like, set maximum flight length & transfer airports etc.
