Very much looking forward to the Sydney flights if the product and conditions are good, hope the trials are successful.

    That’s the big question.

All great publicity for Qantas as was of course the intention.
They have handled the publicity campaign very well managing to ‘milk’ it now for well over 6 months already with probably much more to come.

Will these flights ever happen – probably yes. Within the next 3 years or so – probably no. In any case Qantas do not have the equipment to fly the routes commercially.
Is there likely to be in the short term sufficient demand to fill large aircraft at the high ticket prices needed – I believe not.

Up thread a question was asked as to why Qantas are not working with Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific on flights from AU to Europe now that they have fallen out of love with their M3 partner.

The reason for not doing so is likely because Cathay have no interest as they have many more flights ex AU to Hong Kong than do Qantas and fly up to 6 times daily ex Hong Kong to 13 European destinations with many timings designed to dove-tail with CX incoming flights from AU and NZ.

Cathay do not need Qantas ex AU to Europe although there was an attempt by the 2 airlines to code share ex some AU cities to HK that was seen off by the regulator earlier this year as being anti competitive. Which of course it was.

No chance of my ever doing that – so much better to have a nice day or 2 in Singapore, nice hawker food etc.
