Cathay Pacific is in the process of rehiring 180 pilots who have permits to work in Hong Kong and who were made redundant with the closure of the Cathay Dragon subsidiary.
A spokesman yesterday that the airline was looking to recruit several hundred more pilots during 2022 and had reopened it cadet pilot training programs in October last.

With the strict HK pilot quarantine situation it is very short of available freighter and passenger fight crew and as reported here has needed to temporarily reduce its very profitable freight operation by 75% in the past few weeks and is currently wet leasing large freight aircraft to take up some of the slack.

The resilient Cathay Group has deep pockets and has continued to accept deliveries of new aircraft throughout the past over 2 years of pandemic but has not renewed the leases on some of its few elderly leased aircraft.

From reports it seems that the airline will this year take delivery of a further 6 to 8 new aircraft and is rumoured to be close to placing orders for more smaller single isle aircraft destined for its Hong Kong Express subsidiary.
