Lots of praise for this superb advert from British Airways which came out yesterday:

Even the SerjeantMajor was rather touched by it, especially towards the end.

What other great airline ads do you like?

Good one. Really well done, I must say.

Much better than all that To Fly To Serve guff.

Really good ad – would still have liked the BA music with an Indian Hint as they did a few years ago.
How is this for an old BOAC advert – i remember crew like this

    An excellent ad.

Some may think it a little over-sentimental but as SM says, it is Pitched Perfectly especially for marketing to those from the sub-continent (and before you shoot me down, I am of Indian origin!)

Ah! The Serjeant Major ad for BOAC.

    Very good, BCALBoy.

Yes, it was an advert of which I was aware… 😉

    Some impressive script-writing there:

“I’ll crack the whip in the galley, Captain!” (sniggers, and knowing glances all round)

Memories of a bygone age. Even Economy looks as comfortable as Business today. Where did it all go wrong?

A really rather good ad from BA – it tells a story away from the usual guff about “x’s seat is bigger, wider, longer with more dongles than y’s”.

And I fell about at the BOAC “Yes, Sgt Major” ad: full of double entendres worthy of Viz magazine’s Finbar Saunders…

Of another era, but this one still makes me smile, the incomparable “The Face”:

Superbly directed by Hugh Hudson. Now those were the days of the Landor corporate ID, no LCCs and no Gulf carriers (whether subsidised or not…).

I too saw the new ad yesterday and it made me shed a tear. Initially at the start I thought the mother was going to be taking the food to her sun but a great twist.

I do love the Sgt Major advert though my favourite one has to be this

Yes.. The Face.. This aired in the early 90s a few years after I started travelling internationally for work and it always reminded me of being reunited with friends and family, especially at Christmas.

Although economy may have *looked* more comfortable, we should remember that:

    – there was no seatback TV
    – full screen “cinema” entertainment was often poor quality and broke down frequently
    – headphones were the old “air” stethoscope style
    – the aircraft used were noisy, flew lower (so more turbulence) and generally a far less comfortable experience
    – economy aircraft catering was much worse than today
    – foams weren’t as supportive

Relatively speaking to the less dramatic differentiation between economy and First, however, and I think economy had it pretty good – with fares to match.

Very nice ad, well done BA!!!

I have 4 or 5 favourite airline ads, let me see if I can find them…

This is a collaboration of BA and Visit London:

This one is Qatar and FCB (with my favourite Garry Lineker playing the taxi driver):

    This one is Turkish:

And this one is BA’s (I was 10 years old back then):

And cheers SM, i also had a more than a tear in my eye……
Rather unfortunately as I’m about to go into a meeting- lol
It really resonated with me……reminded me,of my mums mince and tatties : )

    Favorite airline ads……

Doubt the ASA would allow BA to get away with this….

Best stick to the BCal girls and my recent favorite…..
