The first phase of a privately run pet and horse care centre has opened at New York JFK International Airport. The ARK at JFK includes an ARK Pet Oasis which cares for pets travelling as live cargo pre- and post-flight; an Equine & Livestock Export Centre; and Aviary In-Transit Quarantine.

Phase 2 is expected to open in the second quarter of 2017. It will include resting stalls for larger animals being flown out of JFK, and an ARK Aviary with isolation rooms to rest travelling birds in a bonded warehouse. A fuller service, including boarding facilities and veterinary surgeons, will open later in 2017.

Meanwhile for humans leg room shrinks all the time. It’s a dog’s life.
