DALLAS (AP) — American Airlines is looking for management employees to volunteer as flight attendants in case the regular attendants go on strike.

The airline sent an e-mail Tuesday to managers and appealed for their help.

The e-mail said volunteers might work more than six straight days, and they “may encounter challenging interactions with other crew members.”

Contract talks between American and the flight attendants’ union broke off Friday with no new sessions scheduled and with the parties far apart on pay and other issues.

Very much so. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters (one of the striongest unions in the US) has 40,000 members in the airline industry (http://teamsterair.org/) including cabin crew (but not in American) and pilots.

Flight attendants with American are represented by the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (http://www.apfa.org/) – their site has much about pending strike action.

    Unite is affiliated to teamsters.

BASSA, a branch of Unite, tried to get the Teamsters to come out in sympathy with the BA strikers, but were slapped down by Unite as they recognised this was illegal.
