seasonedtravellerParticipantRecently, I have flown 4 sectors on Thai Airways
PVG to BKK
BKK to PVG
PVG to BKK
BKK to PVGEach sector was ticketed in ‘W’ class – and reading the blurb on Thai Airways site (see attached) showed miles earings of 25% (I may be mistaken but that’s what I thought I saw).
SAS have refused to credit any miles for any sector infoming me that ” booked class does not qualify for FF miles”
Last week I flew MAN to BRU with Brussels Airlines, again in ‘W’ class and was awarded 300 FF miles per sector.
Anyone on here know if SAS are correct in their statement?

syclik5ParticipantYes, they are correct.
W on Thai does not earn in SAS: https://www.flysas.com/Templates/FlexiblePage.aspx?id=216851
W on Brussels Airlines earns at 25%: https://www.flysas.com/Templates/FlexiblePage.aspx?id=216809When Thai mention earning rates on their own website, they are talking only about their own frequent flyer programme, Royal Orchid Plus. As a seasoned traveller, you should know that you must carefully check the earning rates for each partner in your chosen programme. Every programme is different and statements made by an airline regarding mileage earning will only ever relate to their own Frequent Flyer Programme.

Thank you for your kind response. As a seasoned traveller(30+ years worlwide business travel) I am very well versed in FFPS however, this particular situation was an anomaly to me….hence the question.

AhmadParticipantI empathise with you seasonedtraveller. Earnings have become quite confusing because of cross-carrier rules within alliances. On many occasions though, it works in your favour. I always check on the websites of the various ffp programmes I am a member of to see which will get me the most miles on a particular route and choose that one for the PNR. I have often ended up with 200% instead of 125% in Business and a whopping 300% instead of 175% in First just by choosing a programme of a different carrier. Most of the time one can still use another card of higher status from the same alliance to obtain the available perks (extra luggage allowance is usually very handy for me).
