Newcastle Airport, which is already enjoying something of a bumper 75th anniversary year in terms of route additions, is planning a ‘plane party for it’s actual birthday on Monday 26th July.

Emirates Airlines have announced that they will operate a B777-300ER on their DXB rotation that day, the longest aircraft ever to have landed at the North East airport.

KLM are reported to be flying their ‘retrojet’ in from AMS, but perhaps the most accessible fun will come with the rostering of a Boeing 747-400 to operate one of British Airways’ London Heathrow-originating roundtrips.

Seats are now on sale from £52 one-way:

    – the flight numbers being BA1326 (LHR-NCL) and BA1327 (NCL-LHR).

Of course, it’s always possible (like the AF A380 LHR-CDG flights) that things may change at the last minute, but it should be a good day out for enthusiasts, with more carriers expected to bring ‘special’ equipment in for the day.

If nothing else, a good excuse to visit Newcastle & Northumbria:

Yes, all very well, but where are people able to see the aircraft from? People coming to the airport by Metro will be disappointed as views of the apron from the terminal building are all airside; the aero club over the other side of the runway is in an area that is ‘no entry to unauthorised vehicles’; and there are parking restrictions on many roads around the airport.
