Until the 4th August when CX operated the new A321neo out of HKG to Shanghai the airline had not operated a single isle aircraft for some 37 years when the last B707 operated a flight to Japan.
This new fleet that will comprise 15 new aircraft will mostly operate to second tier airports in China and Japan many of which were (the now defunct) Dragon Air destinations.
With a range of about 7500 kilometres it will be well able to operate to most destinations around Asia and down as far as Brisbane.
Said to be 15% quieter than earlier models and with new cocoon business seats with high definition 11.6-inch 4K personal TV screen it looks to be a great new way to get around Asia.
Sister low cost carrier Hong Kong Express will also have 15 of the model but in a more dense configuration. Some of these aircraft are also already in operating.
