LondonGuyParticipantOk, heres another recession halting fare for all you keen-eyed punters:
London-Beijing direct on BA Business Class
Depart 18th Jan
Return 22nd JanBest alternative fare on BA?
Expedia – £4626.80
Kayak – £4556
BA direct – £4616My fare – £3996 and this includes 3 nights at the 5-star Shangri-La’s Kerry Centre in Beijing.
If that doesn’t whet ones appetite for cheaper business class travel, nothing will!

LondonGuyParticipantHi NTarrant,
Sorry for the delay – I was in Iceland for the weekend and only got the message today.
The best fare I can find is with BA. It is a day return (can also be a 1 night stay for the same price) on Feb 23rd (Monday).
Here are the details:
Outbound – 23rd Feb 2009
LHR (07.30) – AMS (09.45)Return – 23rd Feb 2009
AMS (19.20) – LHR (19.40)The total price (for 2 adults) I have for this is £601 and this includes 1 night at the HEM Hotel Amsterdam.
On BA.com, this would be £612.20 (2 adults) flight only.
Unfortunately, for Europe, the savings are not as big. Also, if you are still within the advanced purchase period, the prices are very similar to what you can get with BA directly.
For example, on 26th Jan (Monday), on the 11.40 flight out to AMS and the 21.20 flight back to LHR, I can get a fare of £636 including the 1 night at the same hotel. On BA.com, this would be £842.20 so here, I am making a significant saving. This price would also apply for a 1 night stay, coming back on the 07.25, 11.45, 14.50 or 21.20.
Also, with BA, you do get the full Executive Club points in Club Class (just spoke to a BA rep who confirmed this for me).
If you need any more info, you know where I am.

LondonGuyParticipantHey mattpesket,
Here is what I have for you:
Emirates – £2760
The only leg that you are on the A380 would be the Sydney-Dubai return leg so the rest of the journey you won’t have fully flat seats.Qantas – £2899
If you want the A380 for the full journey, you’ll have to leave on the morning of 5th and return on the 19th. If you don’t mind, leaving on the 4th would be the same price and you’ll still have the A380 on the full return flight.Virgin Upper Class – £2999 (7 hour stop in Hong Kong)
Virgin Upper Class – £3048 (1.5 hour touchdown in Hong Kong)Cathay Pacific – £2843 (short stops – less than 3 hours – in Hong Kong)
British Airways – £2899 (touchdowns – roughly 1.5 hrs in Singapore)
Let me know if you need any more information on any of these.

LondonGuyParticipantHi John,
Sorry for the late reply – I have not been around the past few days and only just got the message.
I am assuming you only want direct flights so here are the options – best price is with Singapore (and they are a fantastic airline!):
With Singpore Airlines you’ve got a couple of options:
Option 1 – cheapest price of £2042
Outbound – 23 Feb 09 (not on the A380)
London Heathrow (18.15) – Singapore (14.55 the next day – Tuesday)
Return – 27 Feb 09 (not on the A380)
Singapore (09.05) – London Heathrow (15.05)
Option 2 – the slightly more expensive option £3242
Outbound – 23 Feb 09 (on the A380)
London Heathrow (10.55) – Singapore (07.35 the next day – Tuesday)
Return – 27 Feb 09 (not on the A380)
Singapore (09.05) – London Heathrow (15.05)
Hope this helps – thanks!

JohnDuffyParticipantIs Option 1 still available?
I thought I had this sorted, albeit at a slightly higher fare, via our company travel agent, but I learned today that ,not for the first time, they’ve let me down. My schedule is based on those flights so it looks like I’ve got 14 hours in Economy if this price no longer stands!

LondonGuyParticipantHi John,
Option 1 is still available at the £2042 price.
If you want to go ahead with it, let me know how you’d like me to get in touch with you and we can go ahead and get this booked for you.
Thanks again for checking with me. Hope to speak to you soon!

AussieMParticipantAirline sales are appearing on some routes, especially EU- Asia, & Australia.
Etihad have Return Business /Pearl Class flights from LHR/MAN to Sydney from £1300 if you buy full fare economy or buy Business PLUS upgraded to First Class!
These were for travel until 31st May.
Many Airlines are having rolling sales direct (such as KLM £85 return to Amsterdam, Europe 30 cities for £150 return, Dubai £255, Hong Kong £350 ).
Most consolidators, appear only by the Airline releases to offer greater than the Clever Marketing Airlines do direct, like Etihad, KLM etc.
Brilliant if you can do better!Premium classes are not well booked ahead due to the global financial freeze. Hearing this from locals, Airlines, colleagues, in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, NL…it hasn’t hit fully yet!
I wonder which airlines we shall see dong this more pro-actively now if at all?Good luck for the challenges, but you would be hard to beat the Airline’s sales direct. Gone are the days due to the low Value of the £, where i could buy fares in other countries/& Currencies, as Part of a long haul itnerary (EG Thai from BKK-SYD Business). Sometimes buying 2 one way Business fares in diff currencies, beat the return from LHR!
The value on currencies has wiped that out, even purchasing from say BKK-LHR return, is more than opp way round now. However, good fun, & if you can save £’s bring it on, !
