I’m pleased to inform you that not only have the domestic travel conditions improved in Delhi and Bombay (at the domestic airports) but that the peripherals, such as lounges, have improved considerably, too.
The Premium Lounge in Delhi offers hot food, cold food, snacks, beverages (no alcohol, though), comfortable seats, free internet access from installed pcs…the list goes on.The improvements, including security checks, really do show up the shambles that are LGW and LHR.
Both Delhi and Bombay airports have received impressive refurbishments that make them comparable to some of Europe’s more slicker airports, such as Copenhagen and Munich.
Shopping at the domestic terminal in Bombay isn’t great but Delhi is a different story: there’s enough here to keep a shopaholic busy for at least 30 mins before a flight and, for a domestic terminal, the choices are impressive.

Alcohol is served at some of the Delhi lounges. Although, much improved, general amenities (like choice of newspapers and magazines, sitting layouts, cleaner toilets, amenity kits at toilets) still need a lot of improvements.

I found the toilets at the Premium Lounge in Delhi (domestic) fine and there were free copies of the International Herald Tribune available for guests. Alternatively, the large Odyssey shop downstairs has plenty of newspapers (mostly the Indian broadsheets) and books.
