LAX: Theme Building Restoration Now Complete

    Ever noticed the flying saucer which has parked itself in the centre of the LAX terminal zone?

    It’s called the Theme Building, and was constructed in 1961. Here is a pic:

    Those of you venturing to the West Coast may have a few hours to pass between flights, and it’s well worth a trundle landside to have lunch in the Jetsons-themed interior restaurant, called Encounter. The food is so-so, but the views and interior are well worth the visit, the interiors having been designed by Disney’s Imagineers.

    The structure has been swathed in scaffolding since 2007, when some structural defects were found which required additional Earthquake re-enforcement necessary.

    However, it’s all gone now, so you can once again fully enjoy this iconic structure on your next layover:
