andreadelgadoParticipantHi!
What you do when you have problems with your devices during a business trip? Does your company provide you with an IT remote support even when you are at a different time zone?29 Jul 2015

peter19ParticipantI work in IT and yes is the answer but it can be problematic in certain countries/areas/connections so many variables to support but teams i’m sure will do they best they can.
Is this just a general question or are you looking for an answer in a particular direction?
I’ll happily provide you some services for a fee! 😉

andreadelgadoParticipantThanks for your reply.
My company provides me with an IT support, but the service is limited to business hours, on a certain time zone. It is so frustrating being out of your country and not rely on an IT support due to the different time zone. I was wondering if anyone else is facing the same problem31 Jul 2015

peter19ParticipantDepending on the size of the company and geographical location of offices some will try and do a follow the sun approach but this isn’t always possible. Depending of the nature of the issue if its deemed critical some would provide an on call service for emergencies but not for basic issues. Unfortunately that is one of the joys while traveling for both the traveler and the support.
You must of been having some bad issues – hope you got sorted out!

Carajillo2SugarParticipantIt’s often a tough call when dealing with IT folk. Way too many of you are oh so smug. It’s your job, so just do IT! If we knew as much about computers as you do we wouldn’t need to employ you.
And if you really are that clever, how come you’re working for me and not Apple or Microsoft?

Carajillo2SugarParticipantCertainly not directed at you, peter19, but they know who they are! 😉

MartynSinclairParticipantMy IT support from my UK office is all carried out remotely, so whether in North London or North America – it feels the same.
In addition, in my main destinations, I have access to a local IT consultant when a more hands on solution may be needed.
Always travel with a separate hard drive backed up daily.
All hardware with data I travel with is fully encrypted.
Hard Drive currently used is an iStorage, which has a built in key pad for encryption.
Strange how many people I come across that have no password or security on their mobiles..

peter19ParticipantHi Martyn, Good to hear re the encryption this is very important now with corporate data especially if you are a frequent traveler. As much as we can have tools to control devices in the event of an accident or loss, especially around mobile phones its important to have things secure.
Its a constant challenge we have around data security. Some incidents are out of control when staff leave devices in taxi’s or general theft for example to name a few..The amount of times items are just left in lounges amazes me and its not just popping to the bar for a beer – its left for significant time in a bid to keep their seat.

MartynSinclairParticipantNot only did I have a bag go missing on this trip, but I had a serious IT issue, my mouse on my lap top had a mind of its own and started wondering around the screen without instructions from me, making it very difficult to work.
I contacted the Central Florida Toshiba / Fujitsu agent who arranged to see me and my lap top… and understood the issue. The new parts were ordered and installed all within 48 hours and without me needing to leave my laptop with the firm for more than 2 hours.
Excellent service and am happy to recommend in case anyone needs IT work carried out in central Florida…. and it was all covered on warranty.

AnthonyDunnParticipantI am neither an Apple investor nor employee – but in all the years (decades) of carting sundry MacBooks and now iPads around, I’ve never had the need. Famous last words.

MartynSinclairParticipantQuestion for the techies….
I was recommended never to log onto to a public network that did not require a password.
Now more and more lounges and airport networks do not require passwords or email addresses, before wifi access is given.
Are these networks as safe as when a password or email address is needed??
