I was telling someone today about 5th freedom flights and how they can sometimes be quite competitive due their need to advertise themselves. I then tried to make a list of the current operators between Europe and the USA and ran out after these two.

    DUB-LAX with Ethiopian
    MAN-IAH with Singapore

Can anyone add to this list?

Off the top of my head, there’s also:

    MXP-JFK on Emirates
    FRA-JFK on Singapore Airlines
    LHR-EWR on Air India

[Think those are up to date – conscious there’ve been a few changes recently.]

One of the best of these would be EK for MXP-JFK which is operated by an A380. The Italian govt in Rome did its utmost to block EK from flying this route but it failed.

And SIA’s FRA-JFK service is also operated by an A380.

One airline not mentioned above is 9W (Jet Airways) with AMS-YYZ.

Only because YYZ is not in the USA 🙂

I did initially include BRU-EWR by 9W – but realised this has now gone as part of Jet’s Amsterdam realignment.

Of course – can’t believe I forgot the most obvious one!

    For completeness, there’s also:

CDG-LAX on Air Tahiti Nui (though arguably not a true Fifth Freedom as technically a French carrier)
    RIX-JFK on Uzbekistan Airways
MAN-JFK on Pakistan International Airlines (in one direction – westbound – only)

This is an interesting link, although not exclusively EU/US.

AH/DME on SQ looks very attractive, as does Milan/JFK on EK

Just started – MAN – IAH with SQ five times per week.

Off the top of my head routes including discontinued routes:

SQ: IAH-MAN (continues to SIN), IAH-SVO (discontinued in favor of previous listing, but SVO not part of EU), EWR-AMS (discontinued), JFK-FRA (continues to SIN), JFK-BRU (discontinued in favor of AMS and FRA),

EK: JFK-MXP (and onwards to DXB)

AI: EWR-LHR (continues to BOM), EWR-CDG (continues to DEL)

DY: Norway not technically part of EU, so it’s a 5th freedom for all Norwegian flights to N.America

    TN: CDG-LAX (continues to PPT)

    NZ: LHR-LAX (continues to AKL)

    ET: LAX-DUB (continues to ADD)

SV: JFK-LHR (discontinued after a fiasco with an Isreali passport holder)

kkuaNYC – It was KU for JFK-LHR and not SV.
