Is it economic to operate an A380 for a one hour flight?

For many years Thai Airways used a B747 on the 50 minute trip from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Business Class was always pretty full, as on the A330/B777’s used on the route now. They manage to serve a simple hot meal too!

However other members here might recall that Dhahran to BAH is probably the shortest and that is 32 miles. GF today and years ago also BA, used to fly this route.

My father told me when on the BOAC VC-10s, that they never even raised the undercarriage on take off from BAH.[/quote]

Gulf Air used to schedule 737’s betweren Bahrain and Dhahran as the causeway wasn’t yet built. Interestingly that BA will now fly between Bahrain and Damman airport as a tag from LHR, and flight distance between the two airports is only 86 kilometers. I would say that isnt too environmentally friendly either, and I doubt they can carry local traffic.
