The boarding call for the 1900 BEJ-HK flight, departing Beijing Capitol Airport T2, was called about 1830 and the queue was orderly, with the staff checking passports and boarding passes before we reached the scanning machine. We didn’t have to pass through business class but entered immediately the economy cabin.

Overall, the experience was surprisingly good – the interiors and seats well maintained and service prompt and friendly. I think though effort should be made to improve meal quality. The chicken dishes I chose on both routes, going to Beijing and coming back, were noticeably bland. I was pleased to discover that the IFE menu was quite varied for a three-hour flight.

Once the meal offerings are improved, I would say HK Express could beat Dragonair, one of its route competitors, any day. I would certainly fly this airline again.
