I am on a Qantas flight delayed 13 hours today the 12th July. The airline has known since early morning that we could not depart before 02.00 as the aircraft is not due to arrive until 23.00 (STD 12.15). Qantas have supplied hotels for the day but gave the departure time as 22.00…..why……….well because the BAA would not keep passenger security open beyond 22.00. I have now had this confirmed by 4 staff at the airport and the security duty manager of the BAA.

The BAA is keeping staff security open but passengers are not allowed to use it. As I write the terminal has 5 747 and 1 A380 to depart ( 2 747 to Sin 1 x A380 to Sin 1 x 777 to SIN and 2 x 747 to BKK.) The inadequate facilities (there are no shops or even coffee bars) simply shocking. The lounges, which are a disgrace at the best of times, are bedlam tonight and you cannot find a seat anywhere.
The BAA is simply a continuing embarrassment to this Britain.
