mkcol74ParticipantHas anyone heard any further info on this protest designed to shut Heathrow down on Friday, perhaps longer?

MartynSinclairParticipantAs Linda Davidson has made a public statement of her intentions, why can’t the police get involved before she and her group, bring Heathrow into chaos. It’s a bit like someone saying, “no worries, my loaded gun will be pointed to the ground when I bring it out of my holster in central London”.

FrequentTravellerParticipantRecent articles from Sky News and the Independent imply they are going to try to keep the airport open.
The article comment mentioning that people have had six weeks notice to make alternative travel arrangements, doesn’t wash with passengers who made bookings months ago on restricted tickets. As of yesterday British Airways wasn’t allowing free ticket changes to be made just because of this protest. Another reason to think they will be attempting to keep the airport open. Unfortunately, we are probably not going to know the reality until it actually happens.

FrequentTravellerParticipantAn update on Sky News, much of a repeat of previous comments. But more strongly indicating they will be working to keep the airport open.

MartynSinclairParticipant2 arrested a day early.
“Linda Davidsen, from the Heathrow Pause group, said: “The idea is that we start the action… before any flights take off because we will not fly the drones when there is a flight already up in the air.
“We tell the authorities an hour before we take the action and then, once we have flown the drone, we call the police.”
The group said it wouldn’t fly the drones higher than head height.”

capetonianmParticipantAt least five activists from a group planning to use drones to disrupt flights in and out of Heathrow airport have been pre-emptively arrested.

alainboy56ParticipantI do hope armed police shoot down the first drone and then lower their guns at the imbeciles who flew it!
If only UK Police would show some intent to sort out these idiots, and as for Ms Linda Davidson … throw her in Prison for 6 months, she might not be so keen next time to disrupt so many travelers.2 users thanked author for this post.

capetonianmParticipantI wonder if these halfwits realise that by disrupting air traffic they will cause diversions and aircraft being put into holding patterns and so on which will all increase carbon emissions and fuel consumption. there is likely to be increased road traffic in the area if there’s any flight disruption.
There is potential danger and inconvenience to all concerned, and waste of police and public resources.
I’m watching them interviewing one of these cretins (Sarah Mintram) on Sky News right now.

alainboy56ParticipantI see a recording of a live stream on the ‘Evening Standard’ website and the narrator is clearly a german speaker.
Can he not mind his own business and go and fly his toys in Europe somewhere (Germany/Switzerland/Austria)!!!13 Sep 2019

@alainboy56 Which part of all the arrests that have happened don’t show intent?13 Sep 2019

Two very good points – thanks.
(But I’d better not watch the Sarah Mintram interview – bad for my blood pressure)

GivingupBAParticipantFor anyone interested – here is a video, from their twitter account, of the Heathrow Pause drones in action:
Just been at Pause Heathrow protest press call. They will start flying drones in exclusion but not airfield from 3am Friday but below head height. They won’t say how many but ones they have are v flimsy and struggled in a light breeze. Doubt the airport will actually be disrupted pic.twitter.com/JiujVrjJhq

capetonianmParticipantThis is a job for the army or a specialised police division. I think your comments about PC Plod are a little unfair to the British police who in general do an outstanding job under difficult conditions.
Like most law-abiding people I have had very little to do with the police but on the couple of occasions when I’ve needed assistance I found them to be be supportive and and helpful. One has to bear in mind that they are under resourced and underpaid.
