Here is an interesting piece in the Economist on the role of middle east carriers, speculating on their future. It is quite an opinionated piece, but interesting reading.

I travelled with Gulf Air from Malaysia to Bahrain in Business Class. They did not have Gin and Tonic, my seat was broken and every time I wanted to lay down they had to manually move my seat. And my TV was fuzzy. Dreadful Service

How on earth do Gulf Air stay in business?State subsidies? Now we know where those petrodollars are going.
