TravelcruiserParticipantReceived a leaflet in the post from Amex today telling me that from next year I will have to pay £195 membership for my British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card. That’s a £45 increase from £150 which I currently pay.
They clearly spent money on the highly produced glossy leaflet telling me about the price hike yet I can’t see any justifiable reason for it or any extras I will receive.
Anyone have any insider information on this and interested to know whether people still think it’s a good card to have or whether it’s now worth switching?

travelwellParticipantI agree i wont be renewing the card at that cost as I just dont see the value. I am only using it for the avois points, the companion ticket is almost impossible to redeem as there is less and less availability for avois flights anyway, especially for 2 seats. so you are really only paying the annual fee for the avois points. I have never used the dining offers, invites, travel insurance or other card protections. there are plenty of other cards which offer similar rates of avios with much lower or no annual fee. goodbye BA amex soon.

DerekVHParticipantSpeaking personally I have already had two trips to AMS in CE this year on Avios, next month I am booked to SFO in J using a companion voucher, in October to AUH in F with a companion voucher and in December to KUL in F using Avios. I think the increase still gives me value for money. I would be very happy if this causes a lot of card cancellations as it might increase availability! I do agree that the glossy leaflet was OTT given it was basically only advising of a price increase.

MarcusGBParticipantThey have atrocious Customer service these days, when disputes are raised it takes over the Allowed 3 months to gain a reply, often 6 months. Post is sent with USA addresses on the back of the envelope, but it says “Do not return to this address”!
So, this is a “tax dodge” it seems in terms of registered offices and what is actually done and what is not in Brighton.
Perhaps Amex should read this thread, but they are too removed and arrogant to do so.
I would NOT recommend ANY of their cards at all these days. Charges are an absolute fiddle, with overseas %’s poor exchange rates when they are, as well as annual fees. They have declined beyond all belief, as indeed have MBNA that appear to run most of the other Airline programs.
The days when they were beneficial and had a “Status” is gone.30 Jul 2016

LuganoPirateParticipantMy biggest gripe is the 3% charge they add to Forex transactions. Hence I really only use it for airline tickets bought in Switzerland. In addition it serves as a guarantee for hotel and car hire bookings, but I then use another card to pay.
In the case of car rentals I again use it for renting for the free CDW, but if claim free again pay with another card.
