travelworld2ParticipantI’d be surprised, to be honest. I woudln’t have thought there was the demand for seats given the services offered by EK on A380s from LHR and Manchester, not to mention their flights from Birmingham, Newcastle, Gatwick and Glasgow, Qantas on A380s from Heathrow plus Virgin too…

AMcWhirterParticipantThe A380 works for EK because it has more onward connecting traffic than BA does at LHR. So highly unlikely BA will roster an A380 on LHR-DXB.

SergeantMajorParticipant…though from personal experience BA’s Dubai flights are surprisingly busy (I have a 50% op-up rcord on that route, over many years of using it).
So I wouldn’t discount BA rostering an A380 in future, though probably not until other services are fully A380.

FCTravellerParticipantWhich means they will be dropping first class from the Chengdu route.

sparkyflierParticipantI think the intention all along was that the 787 was to ‘do’ the route, but with that being so late the 772 was used.
Perhaps the route will eventually need a larger aircraft than the 788, and I believe the plan is that some of the 787-900s will have First, and so when that comes in the fleet maybe Chengdu will be a candidate for it.
KLM have always done well on the AMS-Chengdu route, starting with A330, then 772 and now 747. They have a loyal following, and with their new Business Class starting on the 747s, there is reasonable competition for BA. Lets hope they will not fear it.

FCTravellerParticipantI’m very glad to hear that First may go onto the 787-900 🙂 I had been wondering about it in the absence of any word from BA.

SergeantMajorParticipantOf the 42 787s BA has on order, it was my understanding that F would only be fitted to the -10 series aircraft (of which there are 12 firm orders, and 6 possible additional order).
It’s only 787-8s until at least end 2014…

Str8TalkingParticipantInteresting to see a tweet from Boeing thanking BA for 18 orders for 787 aircraft this week. Not sure if these are brand new or just firmed up orders from previous options, or even which variant(s) the order involves.
