Flybe fined £70,000 for breaking the PECR while trying to prepare for the GDPR

As other forum users will know, I am very careful with data protection and this incident reminds of the need to take care.

I have some sympathy with Flybe, since it appears they were not abusing the data, but trying to update it in anticipation of complying with the GDPR.

Interesting article. Like you, FDOS_UK, I have some sympathy for them here but I’d love to know if they did it on the advice of lawyers. My friend works for a public-facing company and had a similar issue. They were advised that if someone has opted out of receiving emails, then the best policy is to not send them any emails unless it directly related to a product issue (so they could send a product recall email but nothing else).

Data Protection law is a minefield though.
