continentalclubParticipantReceived moments ago by email, an offer which awards registered passengers flying on flexible Club Europe tickets until 18 December 2009, the opportunity to earn the same number of BA Miles required to take that flight again.

FCTravellerParticipantBut beware! First of all, when booking online, there is no indication of which class you’re booking in. The cheapest Club Europe fares are class D and are not eligible. The BA online booking engine will only show class D or J (the most expensive one). Class C fares which are somewhere between D and J in terms of price and restrictions don’t come up on the BA booking engine, you have to call and book over the phone. And don’t expect to get a straight answer from BA telephone staff, most of them are clueless about this and give out the wrong information to customers.

continentalclubParticipantYou’re quite right that BA.com defaults to either showing the cheapest available fare available in a given travel class, or the most expensive fully-flexible.
Depending on the route and the sales on a given flight, you may however be shown the C class fare if it’s the lowest available. To see which selling class is being offered, simply lick on the hyperlinked flight number in the flight selector matrix.
It’s a constant frustration that BA.com does not offer the functionality which would allow customers to easily select from available fare classes.
The upsell system currently employed is far from sophisticated – taking customers all the way from D, R and I to J in one fell swoop, and even that does not work on itineraries with domestic connections. Those routings are never offered any kind of upsell.
It seems curious that BA continues to blindside this apparent revenue opportunity, especially in these straitened times and in contrast to the otherwise industry-leading functionality of their website.

FCTravellerParticipantHey thanks Mister, that does indeed show the selling class. I asked three telephone agents about this (on the Silver Line) and they all either shrugged their shoulders or said it wasn’t possible. I can just imagine the number of people who have booked in the wrong class and will be sorely disappointed when BA refuse to give them their miles. Typical BA, they bury the information that people need to make an informed decision.
