Has anyone had to have an experience address check when collecting a hire car. Had this with Alamo from whom I have rented previously but not recently.
Had no issue but at the back of my mind seem to recall such checks can impact credit ratings?

Anyone know why this is necessary?

Was helpfully told it was due to high level of uk thefts!

I’ve had this twice recently – once with Avis and then again with National, both times when the car has been dropped off at the house.

On my occasions, they have searched as an “address check” as opposed to a full search meaning its not counted in your credit report as a search and not visible to anyone apart from the individual – therefore no impact on your credit rating.

Don’t really see the need for this. If you’re paying with a valid credit card that should be enough to guarantee the rental and ensure the address is yours.
