    *Advance notice*

Readers who have been trying to book a short break in either London or Paris in September may have been greeted by the words “Sorry, there are no seats left on trains going out that day. Can you travel on another date ?”

Thalys’ website displays the blunt message “No suggestion for the requested departure date.”

The dates in question are September 8 and 9. Also September 15 and 16.

According to European rail experts Europe by Rail it is all down to the fact that track work is taking place on the high-speed Paris-Lille line.

Sales of Thalys (the high-speed train linking Amsterdam, Cologne, Brussels with Paris) have also been suspended on those dates.

These are busy travel dates and tens of thousands of travellers risk disruption.

I am sure revised schedules will be published once the French authorities finalise the extent of the engineering work.

We will provide further details in due course.

Just a reminder that the engineering work is still scheduled to take place on those four weekend days next month.

Eurostar has released its London-Paris-London seat inventory for the above dates in question and journey times are extended significantly.
