Started last week, on economy saver fares (Skywards silver and above exempt), free at check in at -48 hours.

It costs 100 Dhs (~£22) each way for a DXB-UK trip.

    Thanks for the reminder, FDOS.

We carried a piece last month. There are more details here concerning the different stage lengths and their pricing.

Higher fees will apply for passengers heading to Australasia.

What’s very odd (to me, at least) is that Emirates also charges not only for all credit card bookings, but charges a surcharge if you fly out of the UK on a Friday or Saturday.

“*A surcharge of GBP 5 applies per adult and child to all flights departing from the UK paid for with a credit card, in all cabins and within all fare types, but does not apply on tickets for infants.

Emirates does not apply a payment surcharge for bookings departing the UK when paid by debit card, PayPal or China Unionpay.

Departures from all UK airports on Fridays and Saturdays are subject to a supplement of GBP 20 per adult. Child at 75% and infant at 10% per passenger.”

I’ve asked for this, and the explanation from Emirates is

“these fees are related to taxes from UK airports.”

    Hi Tom

Many airlines charge a weekend supplement to fly FRI/SAT/SUN on longhaul. BA now include THU as the weekend supplement level as well. So Emirates only charge FRI/SAT is not unusual at all – actually better than those that do charge for 4 days (as peak days for travel).

the £5 credit card fee is also the same as many carriers like BA / LH and so forth.

why would they charge weekend sup? because they can or because the weekend charge at airports is higher?

These weekend surcharges were originally applied on transatlantic routes many years as a wheeze to raise extra cash.

They now appear to have spread to other routes.

And now that, according to Tim, BA considers Thursday the start of the weekend I wonder when it will include Monday too ?
