Provided the regulators give the green light the Emirates’ global network will extend to Germany’s capital city.

Why doesn’t Emirates serve Berlin ?

Because, as I have reported many times, under the terms of the ASA (air services agreement) Emirates is limited to four cities in Germany.

At present these are Duesseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.

Emirates could swap one of the former cities for Berlin but I suspect the revenue possibilities are not so great.

The code-share with Germany’s Condor will mean that Berliners can fly non-stop to Dubai and either stay there or connect onto the Emirates network.

Daily flights are effective October 26 and will be operated by two-class A320neo.

Connection possibilities vary depending on schedules. Flights can now be booked on Condor.com

The drawback is that comfort levels on Condor’s A320neo don’t match the Emirates’ wide-body product.

But it is a start and will be welcomed by Berliners who feel neglected by Lufthansa mainline.

Once again Emirates has taken one of its A380s to Berlin for display at aerospace show @ILA-Berlin.

On previous occasions senior members of Germany’s Parliament attended. In 2014, for example, Angela Merkel visited the site.

Until now the ASA wasn’t revised but this link with Condor will create more awareness for Emirates in the German capital.
