Proving there’s no certainty in aviation …
The 430 passengers on Emirates flight 406 Dubai-Melbourne-Auckland were expecting a punctual arrival after a long flight from Europe/UAE.
Instead they ended up at RNZAF’s Ohakea base. Why ? Because SIA’s A380 had suffered a technical failure while attempting to depart Auckland and the latter’s runway had to be closed.
Emirates’ A380 diverted because it was running low on fuel. After taking on more fuel it departed Ohakea and landed in Auckland over four hours late.
What about SIA’s A380 and its aborted take-off at Auckland ?
Flight SQ286 was, according to media reports, carrying 324 passengers. They had to sit it out onboard (after being towed off the runway) for around eight hours before their flight finally departed for Singapore at 21.26.
