AMcWhirterParticipantSurely Israel’s national airline will not fail. But services have been suspended at time of writing.

cwoodwardParticipantI believe that your instincts are correct Alex but new owner(s) perhaps.

ASK1945ParticipantThe story quoted is actually over a week old.
This is yesterday’s Jerusalem Post article (which doesn’t add anything to what we know already):

A search of other online newspapers also doesn’t seem to add anything to yesterday’s JP article.

cwoodwardParticipantIt looks as though there is a new player looking to purchase the airline.
Reports are that a wealthy Israeli family is prepared to purchase the airline ‘not for profit’ and inject funding amounting to twice the purchase price.
It all sounds a little odd but is being widely reported and it seems being taken seriously.8 Jul 2020

ASK1945ParticipantOur daughter and her family were supposed to fly ElAl to TLV from LTN early this morning, but when the above problem arose she went online to their website and found that the flight had disappeared from their schedule. Since then she had been unable to get any response from the airline about it by phone or online. The return flight remained as planned. She started a chargeback with Amex for a refund.
At 1600 today, 9 hours after she should have flown out, she received a “telemessage” advising her that her flights in August (no particular date shown) were cancelled. They have tod her that the tickets remain “open” until such time as they “return to normal”, when she can decide whether to use her tickets or have a monetary refund.
She won’t be re-booking with them.

MartynSinclairParticipantI spoke to a close friend who in normal times, is an El Al weekly commuter (Lon-Tlv). Recently started to split flights with BA, but at anyone time, holds around 10 – 15 open C tickets with El Al.
He explained initially, El Al cancelled all tickets, but more recently, changed the status to ‘postponed’. He is expecting ‘ticketing’ to resume from around September this year, but of course all pending travel restrictions etc.

ASK1945ParticipantThanks Martyn
Our son is also an El Al “weekly commuter” TLV-LON-USA or any combination of these. He has direct access to the top management. Yesterday he told me that he thought it unlikely that El Al will resume any kind of proper schedule before the end of October.
