Good news if you have to travel within Germany by air.

Berliners discovered this morning that Easyjet will be operating a number of new routes from Tegel.

In particular four of these will be the domestic destinations of Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart.

It comes after we reported last week that Lufthansa is operating more domestic flights to alleviate the seat shortage following the demise of Air Berlin.

Does this mean if you fly Berlin to, say, JNB with LH, via FRA, the Berlin – FRA section could be on Easyjet?

LP – I very much doubt it as EZY remains a point-to-point airline. In which case it would suggest EZY is seeking the local Berlin-Frankfurt market.

As we mentioned in the above piece, Lufthansa is now operating larger capacity aircraft between Berlin and Frankfurt to accommodate connecting passengers. (On a few days in December Lufthansa will be operating an A340-600 between Berlin and Munich (its second hub) to cope with demand)
