Good news if you use the busy Dusseldorf to Berlin Tegel* route.

Expect keener fares starting next month.

Germany’s financial publication wiwo.de reports that from January 5 Easyjet will be flying six times daily (four flights on a Saturday) between Dusseldorf and Germany’s capital city.

Easyjet will be competing against Lufthansa’s Eurowings which has an even more frequent service.

Quoted in Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung Lufthansa’s CEO Carsten Spohr said, “For us this [Easyjet] competition will be altogether a tougher competitor than Air Berlin ever was.”

* Easyjet is using slots from Air Berlin, hence its use of Tegel rather than Schonefeld, for these domestic flights.
