No, not Doha but a light hearted moment. Its Friday the 13th…in 2020…and I am flying SGN-HKG-LHR tonight with a 55 min transit. What could possibly go wrong.

Not a good start to the day, woke up to an email from CX saying flight cancelled due to operational issue. new flight on Sunday! Que mad rush calling home, anger then sadness there, cancelling and rebooking taxis, call the office to tell them I am coming into work today.
Then coffee, read email again to realise I misread it as its my Jan flight that changed, que second mad ring around to change it all back! Lesson of the day, drink coffee before doing anything!

Well done on admitting the sort of mistake I think we all make from time to time.

I once arrived on time for my flight at Heathrow only to realise it was from Gatwick.

I would upload some pics, but files are too big.

At SGN now its its a ghost town, only desk open is CX, rest of the check in area is in darkness. looks like CX is the only carrier flying tonight.

Nobody at immigration so had to shout out a “xinchao” and a head pops up from behind a desk , must have been on his nap break!

Airside is empty, not a soul in sight and nothing open except the siagoneer lounge of which I am the only patron.

One warm beer and 3-day old sandwich is about all there is, can’t remember last time I looked forward to a CX meal on board!

I have a feeling there is 10 max people on my flight and I am the only one up the pointy end

I once drove to Gatwick (from the Midlands) to collect a colleague inbound from Italy, arriving LGW in loads of time. Unfortunately I mis-read the departure time from Italy as the eta LGW so a very long wait. Motto – If all alse fails read the instruct1ons preferably beforehand.

Arrived in HKG on time with a 50 mins transfer time. If I were hungry I could have dashed to the lounge but decided just take a gentle stroll from gate 2 to gate 32. Was offered an escort to the gate by CX but declined, was not like it was busy! Strait through transit security as I was the only one. No shops open.
Boarding was on time and using the new facial recognition gates. Staff check your boarding pass matches passport before the gates. Of course, it did not recognise my ugly mug so I still had to do it the traditional way. As they do not scan passport at the gate, I guess they get the facial recognition from the immigration/ transit scans.
There were 70 passengers on the LHR flight with about 6 in J, we had a 30 min delay on take off as they did not want to arrive in LHR before night flight curfew ends. Staff were excellent as usual, and I received a very nice handwritten card from the cabin crew thanking me for my continued support during these times. A nice touch.
Flight was good, food was good and full service. Used the Wi-Fi the entire flight and it was fast enough to be streaming video content.
Landed on time at T2, far gates and arrived to an empty immigration hall, I was first there and had to shout out “hello” to get someone’s attention to switch on the e-gates…which of course did not want to play nice with my passport so I was first at the gates and last out of the gates while they kept insisting I keep trying instead of putting me through manually. I did have to do a pre flight health declaration but at no point did anyone on arrival ask me details, ask where I had been, nothing. Strait out to baggage hall where my bags were waiting and up and out into the taxi home. 3 hours after landing was sat at home having a nice cup of tea
