Dan Air (a Romanian primarily charter operator) will be launching new scheduled flights from Bucharest in June – including to Gatwick. Seems just a coincidence named after the founder, rather than having any relation or link to the former Dan-Air carrier that BA ultimately purchased (for £1). Appears to be a full service carrier with a business product. Flight frequencies however are scant. One wonders how this will fare given Ryanair and Wizz Air already have a considerable presence in Bucharest, in addition to TAROM which it is probably pitching itself as more of a competitor to with it’s two class service offerings.

Advance schedules show Dan Air operating a single flight every Friday routed OTP (Bucharest)-LGW=OTP effective June 2.

But effective Friday June 16 this airline is starting another route between Brasov (BRV) and LGW.

So from that date it will operate Friday flights (presumably using the same aircraft):

OTP-LGW-BRV-LGW-OTP.

Thank you for sharing this interesting news about Dan Air’s launch of new scheduled flights from Bucharest in June. It’s good to know that the new carrier will be a full-service operator with a business class product, though the frequency of flights may be a concern. Given the already established presence of Ryanair, Wizz Air, and TAROM in Bucharest, it will be interesting to see how Dan Air fares in the highly competitive market. It’s worth noting that while the new Dan Air carrier may share the same name as the former Dan-Air carrier that BA purchased, it appears to be just a coincidence with no relation or link. Now today comes news that Wizz Air is to launch a Brasov-London LTN service.

There will be three flights a week (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) effective August 2.

One wonders how Dan Air will fare with a Fridays only flight.
