    I used to see that Metroliner quite regularly when I lived in Malta and it came as a big shock to see it crash on the Safi/Kirkop side of the airfield.

    The dashcam appears to show the aircraft rolling inverted, in a stalled condition and then entering an incipient spin, before impacting the ground.

    I never flew on a Metroliner (as pax or pilot), but the hangar talk was that it had a very unpleasant stall, that could be difficult to recover (FWIW) – this accident does look like a VMCA (minimum control speed) candidate.

    Not for nothing was it known as ‘The Frightening Tube’ by some when in regular pax
    service in Europe.
