This piece I believe outlines well how the lounge can prove be very useful for Cathay business travellers to/from China that takes only 30 minutes with 13 return trip ferry’s a day that connect directly into HKG’s airport.

“As of early November 2023, Cathay Pacific has opened a lounge at the Shekou ferry terminal, which is part of the port of Shenzhen, China. The lounge is open daily from 7AM until 8:15PM. Why would Cathay Pacific open a lounge at a ferry terminal, rather than at an airport?

Well, Shenzhen is the closest city to Hong Kong in mainland China, and it’s only a short distance away. Cathay Pacific doesn’t fly between Shenzhen and Hong Kong (the airports are only 24 miles apart), but the airline still wants to be an attractive option for travelers” from this incredibly important business hub.

There is frequent ferry service between Shenzhen and Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which takes just 30 minutes. There are currently 11 daily roundtrip ferries, making this one of the busiest ports connecting the Greater Bay Area to HKIA. To make the whole experience more seamless, Cathay Pacific has opened a lounge there.

The lounge is styled after Cathay Pacific’s existing lounge motif, created by StudioIsle, used in lounges across the globe. Customers can look forward to a familiar palette of earth tones, cherry wood, and bronze and brass details, along with Cathay Pacific’s signature dark green tiles.

The food and drink menu is also intended to give guests a small treat ahead of their journey, with options like pork bao and Chinese desserts, along with a patisseries selection and toasted paninis, to ensure there’s something for everyone.

More and I believe useful information on this unique lounge is now available-

The following passengers can take advantage Cathay Shekou lounge before their fast ferry ride to HKG:

-Cathay Diamond and Gold members when travelling on ANY airline departing from Hong Kong.

-INCLUDING Oneworld, Star Alliance, SkyTeam, Emirates and Etihad: as long as the Cathay Diamond or Gold member holds a boarding pass

-First class and business class passengers travelling on a Cathay Pacific flight.

-Cathay Silver members and Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members ONLY when travelling on a Cathay Pacific flight

The access for Cathay Diamond and Gold members even when travelling on other airlines is a surprisingly and very generous perk that is presumably aimed at winning hearts and minds.

Cathay exec Lavinia Lau in a recent interview with Executive Traveller’s David Flynn said-

“We have our own check-in desks at Shekou where travellers can check in their bags, get their onwards boarding passes and step on a ferry which takes them directly to airside, where they board the flight,” Lau explains – so the new Shekou lounge will become a part of their journey with Cathay “and provide a taste of the Hong Kong lounge experience.”
Lau further described the Shekou lounge as “a scaled-down version” of a conventional Cathay Pacific lounge, with the elegant design language created by StudioIlse for Cathay Pacific and seen in Hong Kong’s The Pier and The Deck along with Cathay lounges at Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei, Manila, London and Vancouver and the Shekou lounge being like a smaller seaside version of The Deck.”

Usefully the ferries carry a CX codeshare, allowing luggage to be checked through at Cathays Shekou Ferry Pier to ANY Cathay flight, and can be booked through the Cathay website as a combined flight and ferry ticket by entering Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Homeport (ZYK) as the origin or destination.

Another great advantage of is that at Hong Kong airports SkyPier, passengers DON’T need to go through immigration and can head straight to the Cathay lounge of their choice. ”
