Perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel is becoming brighter with Cathay Pacific and one or 2 other larger airlines looking to recruit pilots for the first time since late 2019.
Cathay particularly are seeking A320 captains and FOs for Hong Kong Express and for the new A320 fleet that Cathay will receive later in 2021 from the pool of ex Dragon Air aircraft in long term storage and new aircraft arriving from Airbus in 2022. These aircraft will be used on short haul routes (particularly the China routes) that Cathay inherited when they closed Dragon Air.
There is still a pool of some 150 ex Dragon Air A320 drivers with HK residency still in Hong Kong and so the vacancies should be filled very quickly. Interesting the advertising states that all applicants must be vaccinated and hold HK permanent residency.
Interestingly this will be the first time for decades that Cathay has had single aisle aircraft in its fleet flying under the Cathay banner.
