Brussels is very accessible by train from its airport. and its a good service BUT, can anyone advise how to avoid the crazy and slow queues for train tickets at the airport at busy arrival times, given that the ticket machines do not accept credit/ debit cards?

I’ve also bought a ticket on the train in the past from the conductor. You should notify the conductor as you board the train or shortly after — don’t wait for the conductor to come through the train, otherwise they presume that you might be trying to ride for free … because conductors don’t always come through the train.

The train really is the fastest way to the city center … recently the fare increased from 3 Euro to 4.25 Euro or so. This is still much less than the 31-50 Euro that you will pay for a taxi (which is normally also slower). The train departs the airport approximately every 15 minutes from level -2.
