Never break your own rules!

1, rule – So, don’t get to the airport too early

TSA will take the time away. 4 lanes are down to 2. When it is finally your turn to get stripped by X-ray, the other lanes reopen and the queue vanishes.

2. rule – Don’t check the bag.

So you decide that for once you should be polite and not take up all the space with your largish bag. Next thing you know, just before you board, your flight is cancelled due to maintenance. You are rebooked on the next one. Alas, you cannot see that airplane due to the snow fall that started 30 minutes after you original flight was to depart. Your bag will remain in the trusty hands of the airline until you reach your destination….

Oh well. Drinks are free life is good and my flight is still only delayed and not cancelled… yet… like nearly all the others.
