Yesterday Le Shuttle tweeted this alert.
URGENT UPDATE FOR BRITISH RESIDENTS IN EU: Following a French Government decision, on 28/12/2021, unless they hold French residency, British citizens are now considered 3rd country citizens and can no longer transit France by road to reach their country of residence in the EU. pic.twitter.com/KGNr3FpWM2

And one traveller was turned away yesterday.
@LeShuttle tonight I was denied access to the Eurotunnel by the FR customs. I was told being a Belgian resident (M card holder) was no longer a compelling reason for transiting FR to go home. I was given this document by the FR customs & told to leave. @UKMisBrussels @FCDOGovUK pic.twitter.com/bZjsW9pd51

GeorgeJParticipantAlex,
Rather amusingly the travellers twitter feed now reports that he jumped on the Eurostar and caught the train to Brussels without hindrance. They cant even implement a ban properly.
I suppose we should thank the French for protecting our travellers from the rampant infection risk in the Pas de Calais and France in general.2 users thanked author for this post.

AMcWhirterParticipantThanks for the added info GeorgeJ.
During the pandemic Eurostar continued to operate (and to carry UK nationals) to Brussels via France. Its London-Amsterdam service (via France and Belgium) was suspended for a while but has now restarted.
Hence The Times noted the word “driving.”
Yesterday France reported 208,000 cases. How many will be reported today ?
Latest news is that Paris requires masks to be worn outdoors from tomorrow.
The surge in cases is coinciding with the New Year holidays, normally a period of parties and travel 🦠📈

Tom OtleyKeymasterThere seems to have been a reversal of this decision in the last few hours.
Still confusing.
Brits who live in the EU will be allowed to cross France during the Christmas periodhttps://t.co/hO47pDDPIg
