Over the years a good number of readers have wondered why there isn’t a Manchester-Gatwick air link.

Questions have been asked and I have invariably replied by saying it’s a matter of yield plus those improved West Coast Mainline rail services.

However an air link will restart from March 28.

BA says the link is to provide connectivity with long-haul routes.

But it’s also handy for Mancunians planning to visit areas along the South Coast or areas to the south of the capital.

Indeed…..as debated a couple of weeks ago on here….

A serious long-haul airline network outside London?

Never understood why they ditched it – it served so many popular leisure destinations both short- and longhaul. I suppose now they need every passenger they can get..

I tried four dummy bookings today, on average LGW – MAN was £40 dearer than LHR route.
