FDOS_UK. Not meeting desired/declared service makes BA a second class carrier IMHO.

Many comment about airport baggage handling, non-airline gate agent are not in airline control. That is not true, Airlines have definitive control on these and how they manage the contract with various agencies. Only immigration and security are not with airlines control.
That I agree with, completely. Omitting the words ‘full service’ changes the meaning of the sentence and it is a fair summary from what I’ve seen in recent years.

That’s dangerous thinking – it could be confused with providing a first class service 😉

Or they could take a leaf out of Lufthansa’a book, and escort you to the plane from the lounge. Up a side entrance at the dock at Frankfurt and you go straight to your seat avoiding all queues. At outstations having been escorted to the lounge you’re asked if you’d like to board first, or last. They then collect you and again avoid all queues.

But Lufthansa understands how to provide a first class service and makes a decent premium for doing so.

If we believe the rumours, BA struggles to make money from the F cabin – I wonder why? Could it be people are price sensitive because they are aware of what they are buying or is it an Avios redemption cabin?

Interesting point. I don’t travel BA very often, but it’s interesting that where a First Class lounge is provided, I rarely see other passengers there that are on my flight. So either they are gate upgrades or don’t bother with the lounge. Many of my friends who I see in Cape Town in January fly with BA mainly because it’s direct, but who never pay for First, using miles, or AMEX points and/or 2 for 1 vouchers.

From a personal point of view I find the whole BA First experience so inferior to LH, LX, EK, SIA, and dare I say, even inferior to SAA’s business class (long haul) product! The latter is based on the seat size and space which again I find inferior on BA.
